Backdrop
The game is set in the 5000 BC era. It takes you through the stone age, and from there on to the middle age, colonial ages and the modern times.
Gameplay
You start by creating a settlement in the ancient times with almost nothing but a handful of people and a few tents. Being a ruler, your people look up to you to make important strategic decisions, to help them evolve from a tiny settlement into a big empire.
With the progression of time and passage of centuries, you gain access to technologies specific to that era. These become available to you at appropriate times and depending on your needs. How your cities get populated with people bound together by strong companionships is a lot about the strategy you implement. You’ll be expected to implement diplomatic campaigns and fight battles using several army units. The combat aspect is essentially turn-based, making you move and decide the attacking strategy of your troops.
Graphics
Although the concept, art and graphics of this game are good, but only good enough to not make it monotonous. They’re still a fair distance from the new age strategy games with real-life 3-D graphics. Regardless, on the whole, the graphics are good to look at, professional with an informative user interface.
Conclusion
With more than 14 million players registered from different parts of the world, it would only be fair to say that Forge of Empires is indeed popular among the gaming masses. Visit any gaming forum and you’re likely to see many dedicated topics on this game!
